 LMC to set up solar energy project on 20 acres of land at Patharwadi

-Latur Municipal Corporation will be the first in the country to become self-sufficient in electricity consumption

In order to make self-sufficient in power consumption, District Guardian Minister Amit Deshmukh has accelerated the work to set up Latur Municipal Corporation's solar energy project. For this project, around 20 acres of land transfer process at Patharwdi village in Renapur tehsil has now been completed.

However, after this project Latur municipal corporation will be the first in the country to use its own electricity. Municipal Corporation pays crores of bills every month to the MSEDCL for its street lights, water supply and water extraction from the Manjara Dam. Owing to the lack of means of income sources, the corporation often faces difficulties in paying the electricity bill. Sometimes MSEDCL cuts power supply as LMC fails to pay bills.

Minister had instructed the officials of the municipal corporation to submit proposals to become in order to overcome this problem permanently. Following the directions, Mayor Vikrant Gojamgunde and the then Commissioner and concerned officials demanded to provide land for solar energy projects.

Since many days, the land required for the project has been searched. After all discussions with the minister, 7 Sector 80R land at Patharwadi in Renapur taluka was declared for the project. Newly appointed District Collector BP Prithviraj and Municipal Commissioner Aman Mittal have accelerated the work and now the land transfer process has been completed.

For this, LMC has transferred a fund of Rs 1, 36, 50 thousand to the revenue department.

7, 50 thousand units will be generated per month

The 5 MW solar energy project to be set up at Patharwadi is expected to generate about 7 lakhs to 7 lakhs 50 thousand units of electricity per month. The power generated in this project will be given to the 33 KV power station at Pangaon and in return Latur Municipal Corporation will get the required power from MSEDCL. In the construction of this project, Mahaurja (Medha) will act as a monitoring system.

This solar energy project will help to reduce the environmental damage and air pollution and also the corporation can produce income through carbon credit based on this solar project. However, that can be another source of income.
