A 34-year-old man rides cycle to spread awareness on environment conservation

A 34-year-old cyclist Greenman Narpat Singh Rajpurohit, who hails from Langera village of Barner district in Rajasthan is on nationwide the world’s longest cycle journey and reached Latur on Wednesday afternoon riding cycle.
He began his cycle journey from Jammu airport on January 27, 2019 and so far, he has covered a distance of 23770 km through 15 state and 4 union territories spreading the message of environment, wildlife and water conservation and entered Maharashtra.
Cyclists passed through Jammu, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, UP, Punjab, Rajasthan, Delhi, Gujarat, MP, Goa, Div. Daman. On Friday, Greenman will proceed for his further cycle journey and will ride through Karnataka, Telangana, Tamilnadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, Kolkata, West Bengal and will reach Jaipur in Rajasthan.
“By birth, I developed my interest in the environment. I started a campaign to give people saplings on special occasions. In my sister’s wedding, I had gifted 150 saplings to the guests in order to spread the message of saving the environment. It has been a great adventurous journey and I found many positive and less negative people from different parts of the country in my journey. My goal is to spread the message of environment conservation throughout the country, “he said.
Despite 38 stitches in his one leg and having 10 percent disability, he did not let his spirits down to pursue his goal. During his cycle journey, he purchases two saplings from nursery and plant in a place. Since 2013, he has planted 91,000 trees and rescued a number of animals. He saved deer, 169 Chikara, 7 Peacock, 4 Rabbit,1 Falcon, 1 Nilgai, 2 Owls, 1 Eagle, 1 Jackal. When birds or animals are found in injured condition or are informed about injured wildlife, he is always ready to cooperate for treatment in hospital, he said.
At present, he works at a sweet shop as a salesman and uses 70 percent salary for environmental conservation. This becomes possible because his family members support him, he said.
He further said, “I also interact with people in my journey on the dowry system and educate them to stop the system in the society wherever I reach. Therefore, I gave 251 saplings to my sister Meena as dowry and 151 saplings to niece Hansakar.”
In addition, in view of creating awareness about blood donation, Greenman donated blood 18 times. Of which, he donated blood twice during his cycle journey. The purpose of this tour is to spread more and more awareness about environment conservation among the people, he added.
He got delayed for his cycle journey because he was stranded for several months during nationwide lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic, his journey was hectic, he said.
