Instructions for University Act amendment will be presented to the State Government --- MLC Vikram Kale Latur, Dec 27 The state government has been seeking suggestions from experts to make amendments of some provisions of the new Maharashtra University Act. Under this amendment, the suggestions will be presented to the state government to extend the tenure of the pro VC- and the dean of humanities for five years from the date of their appointment, assured MLC Vikram Kale in a grand felicitation function held on Saturday in Smt Sushiladevi Deshmukh College, Latur. He was speaking at the ceremony held by Latur District English Teachers' Association to felicitate Dr Ajay Tengse, on being appointed as dean of humanities and social sciences department in Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University, Nanded, Vilasrao Deshmukh Government Medical College dean Dr Sudhir Deshmukh presided over the function. Director of Swami Ramananda Tirtha Marathwada University Latur Sub-Center Dr Rajesh Shinde, dean Dr Ajay Tengse were present on the stage as guests of honour. "The tenure of the Vice-Chancellor is for five years. According to the new University Act, if the term of the Vice-Chancellor ends then the tenure of Pro VC and dean will be expired. In order to extend their tenure the suggestions in the amendment of university act will be strongly presented to State Government," MLC Vikram Kale said. He further expressed grief saying that the attendance of college students is decreasing day by day. It shows the dire condition of colleges in rural areas. Teachers are ready to impart knowledge but students are not attending college. A number of students enrolled in an open university is rather than a regular college. In his presidential address, Dr Sudhir Deshmukh said that there was a fear in the society that speaking English would make them separate from the villagers. But because of English, each family member of Kerala is in abroad and therefore, people in Kerala are financially strong. In order to make the society of Maharashtra economically strong on the lines of Kerala, the attraction of English language should be increased in the rural areas. For this, an education system need to be fearless and it should create an interest among the students. While answering to the felicitation, Dr Ajay Tengse assured that he will do his job in a more positive way in the university. Dr Rajesh Shinde appealed that the people will not have to go to Nanded University for various work but would get work done in Latur sub-center. Principal Dr Ajay Patil, Dr Rajendra Prasad Awasthi also expressed their thoughts. On this occasion, Principal Dr Ajay Patil, Dr Mahadev Gavhane, Dr Rajendra Prasad Awasthi, Dr Shailja Wadikar, Dr MM Betkar, Dr DB Ravande, Dr AA Yadav, Dr Rajaram Jadhav, Dr Prashant Mannikar, Dr Ramakant Ghadge, Dr Ashok Mote were also honoured with shawls and trophy by the chief guests. Dr Machhindra Khandagale delievered an introductory speech. Dr Pandurang Shitole and Dr MD Pathan conducted proceedings while Dr Meena Kadam proposed vote of thanks. Dr Shyam Jadhav, Dr Anuja Jadhav, Dr Urmila Dharashive, Dr Padma Mantha, Dr Mallikarjun Karjagi, Dr Kranti More, Dr Sayyed Nisar, Megha Pandit, Dr Shital Gunjote, Dr Ajit Mulajkar, Dr Geeta Waghmare, Sanjay More, Dr Balaji Bhosale and others worked hard for the success of the programme.
