Latur Nagar Panchayat polls conducted peacefully; 208 candidates in fray

General elections were held for 52 seats in four Nagar Panchayats of Latur district, Chakur, Jalkot, Deoni and Shiroor Anantpal. However, a total of 208 candidates were in the fray for the election. The polling was conducted peacefully at 62 polling stations on Tuesday and the nagar panchayat polls registered a total of 76.85 per cent turnout till the last report came in on Tuesday.
A total of 25 thousand 213 voters exercised their right to vote. Of those, 13 thousand 324 male and 11 thousand 889 female voters. Due to stay on OBC's political reservation, elections were not held for 16 seats. As the election for these seats will be held on January 18, all the counting of votes will be conducted on January 19, said polling department.
A total of 52 candidates were in the fray for 13 seats of Jalkot Nagar Panchayat. Polling was held at 13 centers. Of the 6 thousand 108 voters, 5 thousand 03 voters exercised their voting right. Of which, 2 thousand 661 male and 2 thousand 342 female. The turnout of male voters is 83.05 per cent and 80.65 per cent female.
In Chakur, Nagar Panchayat poll, around 58 candidates were in the fray for 13 seats of. At least 9199 voters exercised their voting at 23 polling stations, including 4894 male and 4305 female. 74.84 per cent male and 74.67 per cent female voters exercised polling. A total of 74.76 per cent voter turnout.
In Devani Nagar Panchayat, polling was held for 13 seats at 13 polling booths. A total of 66 candidates were in the fray of the election. Out of 8496, 6074 voters exercised their voting including 3207 male and 2867 female voters. However, the total turnout in this Nagar Panchayat was 71.49 percent.
There were 32 candidates in the fray for 13 seats of Shiroor Anantpal Nagar Panchayat. The voting process at 13 centers was conducted peacefully. Out of 6199 voters, 4937 exercised their voting. They include 2562 male and 2375 female voters. A total of 79.64 per cent voting took place.

Latur couple runs ' Majha Ghar,' transforms lives of underprivileged children
Latur, Apr 7 In a nondescript village in Maharashtra’s Latur district, a couple has created a haven for underprivileged children to educate them and make them self-reliant, and they are now proud parents to 51 boys and girls. Moved by the plight of children from poor backgrounds, Sharad and Sangeeta Zare, both in their 40s, started with a humble endeavour to educate them but soon realised that teaching them different skills would secure their future. The couple has set up ‘Majha Ghar,’ an ashram run by their organisation Manus Pratishthan, on 14 acres of land near Budhoda village in Ausa tehsil.
