Bamboo to be grown on 5,000 acres to boost rural economy of Latur district, minister says

Bamboo on 5,000 acres land will be planted this year to boost the rural economy of Latur district and ethanol refinery from bamboo to be set up in the district on co-operative basis, Guardian Minister Amit Deshmukh said on Tuesday at Lodga in Ausa tehsil.
He was speaking at the inauguration of the second phase of "Almac Biotech Lab", the country's first bamboo tissue culture maker.
MLA Abhimanyu Pawar, former MLC and chief of the project Pasha Patel, Maharashtra Bamboo Board, Aurangabad Director PB Bhalerao, District Superintendent of Agriculture Officer Dattatraya Gavasane, International Bamboo Expert Sanjeev Karpe, Sub-Divisional Officer Avinash Kamble, Ausa Tehsildar Bharat Suryavanshi, Abhijit Salunkhe and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
Expressing happiness over the project, a pilot project of bamboo that can change the future of agriculture in Maharashtra is taking place in Latur district, the statement of Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari that farmers will be not only food providers but also energy donors in future may come true in the coming future. Therefore, 5,000 acres of bamboo will be planted and the country's first refinery will be set up in the future, minister Deshmukh assured.
He said, "The largest bamboo ethanol refinery is being set up at Numaligad in Assam in northeastern India. That refinery would be a great hope for us, the then Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh in Latur district started a soybean processing industry. Today, Latur district is known all over the country as a soybean hub. It is a matter of pride that soybean prices of the world are fixed only in Latur. This is the magic of the district's farmers."
Recognizing that revolutionary changes will take place in agriculture in the district in the future, we have proposed to the Central Government to develop Latur Airport as a port "Air Cargo, Dry in Land", which we all will pursue , the minister said.
"We are examining the planting of palm and olive trees along with bamboo. We will grow such bamboo in the district, as however bamboo is being imported from Vietnam for the construction of a magnificent building from bamboo at Bangalore Airport," he added.
On this occasion, the minister Amit Deshmukh gave an emotional message to the citizens that they should carry forward the mantra of Vilasrao Deshmukh, "Whatever is new, we need for Latur".
Minister appreciated the work of former MLC Pasha Patel for bamboo plantation and said his work for the bamboo mission is commendable and we will do our best to enhance this mission.
MLA Abhimanyu Pawar said that Patel is known as the brand of bamboo in the country.
Pasha Patel in his introductory speech said that Almac Biotech Lab at Lodga is the first tissue culture laboratory in the country with bamboo and today 5,000 saplings are produced in one hour. He explained the importance of bamboo, saying that 150 crore saplings will be produced from this laboratory in the future and it will be done completely mechanically.
Before the inauguration of Almac Biotech Lab, world renowned bamboo expert Sanjeev Karpe in his presentation said that bamboo has a very nutritious environment in India.

Latur couple runs ' Majha Ghar,' transforms lives of underprivileged children
Latur, Apr 7 In a nondescript village in Maharashtra’s Latur district, a couple has created a haven for underprivileged children to educate them and make them self-reliant, and they are now proud parents to 51 boys and girls. Moved by the plight of children from poor backgrounds, Sharad and Sangeeta Zare, both in their 40s, started with a humble endeavour to educate them but soon realised that teaching them different skills would secure their future. The couple has set up ‘Majha Ghar,’ an ashram run by their organisation Manus Pratishthan, on 14 acres of land near Budhoda village in Ausa tehsil.
