BSF officer celebrates promotion with underprivileged children, not a hotel party

Latur, March 17

In a heart-warming departure from convention, a Border Security Force (BSF) officer chose compassion over celebration by marking his promotion with children from a shelter home instead of hosting a party at a luxury hotel.

Digambar Singh, who has been serving at the BSF training centre in Chakur for the past four years, was recently promoted and transferred to Delhi. Rather than celebrating with colleagues in a lavish setting, he decided to share his happiness with children at the ‘Majha Ghar’, a shelter home for underprivileged children from education, initiative run by Sharad Zare.

The unique celebration took place on Sunday night, where Singh organised a community meal with the children, bringing smiles to their faces. His association with the project dates back nearly three years, after he came across a news report about it and expressed a keen desire to visit and meet the children.

During his first visit, Singh donated a bicycle after noticing several children sharing one. Over time, he contributed another bicycle and various sports materials. Despite his busy schedule, he frequently visited the shelter, often travelling by motorcycle from Chakur, each time bringing something for the children. His presence also inspired a sense of patriotism among them.

On the occasion of his promotion, several BSF colleagues and senior officers joined the celebration. The children welcomed the BSF jawans with enthusiasm, presenting yoga demonstrations, stick drills, and patriotic dance performances. Some BSF personnel also showcased their talents, adding to the festive atmosphere.

The children had been eagerly awaiting the visit for days, excited to meet the BSF prsonnels who protect the nation’s borders. Following the meal, the officers appreciated the efforts of the shelter home and the talents of the children.

Speaking on the occasion, Digambar Singh said he would continue to support and visit the shelter home even after his transfer to Delhi.

“The gesture by the BSF officer stands as a powerful reminder that true celebration lies in sharing happiness with others, keeping the spirit of humanity, compassion, and kindness alive,” said Sharad Zare.
